Just an update on the Africa trip.
Left Spain June 2019
Currently stuck in Gabon with land borders closed due to Corona virus.
Crossed the Gembu - Banyo road, Nigeria to Cameroon couple weeks ago, bridges are amusing as you will see from photos.
Hit another truck in Guinea on the fantastic roads there, damage in 1 photo.
Had 4 flat tires and 1 blow out.
Got a service at MAN Van Vliet in Ghana, great service.
Been through over 500 check points.
Been searched 30 times.
Have not paid a dime to the police or border control.
Wasted many hours arguing with police and border control why I will not pay.
Had an absolute blast, best idea I ever had!!!

I see steel rims on your truck. Do you have tube or tubeless ones?

Tube tires tend to blow up if the tube rubs at the inner wall.
But normally in a controlled manner, appr. 10 seconds till the tire is completely flat.

I have tubes, still cant figure out the blow out, tire pressure was 5.5 bar but it was 35 degree day and we had done over 450km of pretty constant driving at 65 kmph on good Chinese roads then 50 km of bad potholes in Gabon.
Picked up 3 new tubes in Ghana from MAN Van Vliet luckily.
Down to a single spare tire now so will look to pick some new ones up in Namibia maybe.
All other flats were nails or bolts through tire. oh and a back brake fire when leaving Spain which stuffed my 3rd spare.

As I know, Angola is closed too at the moment Not sure when we will / can head back, will be interesting times. Hope you can continue or find a nice place to stay until the storm has blown over.

Just found an information in Zeit online Blog: nearly all African states have closed borders for Europeans.
I don't know, whether this applies only for people coming directly from EU or also for those already in the area.

Kenia has the smartest approach: people coming states with confirmed COIVD-19 cases.

Yes, most overlanders I have meet on the way are stuck and are either storing vehicle there or shipping home.
A German couple with a broken down van are trying to get out of the Congo Pointe Noire now.
Jelleveyt a Belgian adventurer I meet in Gabon who was cycling to Mt Kilimanjaro to climb it and 7 other summits on different continents is stuck there as well.
I wonder if this west Africa route will ever be doable again?

nice to here about someone who is so happy with his decision.

With your Tire Problems, i used talcum powder between tube and tire. It fixed all my problems like this kind you have. It will reduce friction between the rubber parts and the tube has a way better chance to settle down were it supposed to be and not stuck beeing twisted and rub against the tire wich produces a lot of heat or causes cracks in the rubber.

Yes they on to that in Africa, Photos below of a flat tire I had in central Nigeria, this kid was 14 years old no shoes and only hand tools and a compressor, removed, fixed puncture, re fitted tube (with plenty of talcum powder) then reinstalled on truck in under 1 hour in 35 degree heat, pretty impressive to watch!!
I tried to sign him up for the All Blacks back in New Zealand.
